After school, I moved to Hamburg to study Geophysics in the Bachelor and Master. During these studies I specialized in the field of Volcanology. In my Bachelor thesis I did a 1D-model of a wind bent eruptive column. In my master thesis I studied numerically the measurement of a Pyroclastic Density Current (PDC) with a Doppler Radar. The thesis focused on the effect of extinction (removal of energy due to absorption and reflection) of the radar beam. Both thesises were supervised by Dr. Lea Scharff and Prof. Dr. Matthias Hort from the University of Hamburg. Now my research area has shifted to 3D-modelling of eruption columns and PDCs. Specifically the sometimes explosive phase transitions of water are of concern here. This would allow for the modelling of explosions in hydrothermal systems and potentially also the ocean entry of PDCs.
