Degree: Pisa (2022)
Supervisor: Francesco Fidecaro
Thesis: Deep learning methods for Acoustic signals-based recognition of road pavement distress

I was born in 1995 in Lucca and graduated high school in the municipality of
Capannori (Liceo scientifico Ettore Majorana).
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Physics in 2018 at the University of Pisa.
During the course of 2019, I was involved in the Interreg project, concerning port noise, where I started developing an interest in the field of applied physics.
I later obtained a Master’s degree in medical and applied physics in 2022 at the University of Pisa. During my Master’s thesis, written under the supervision of prof. Francesco Fidecaro and prof. Gaetano Licitra, I was given the opportunity to work in a diversified environment with experts from different scientific backgrounds. My thesis “Deep learning methods for Acoustic signals-based recognition of road pavement distress” was focused on the possibility of realizing an embedded digital system for assessing road surface conditions based on deep learning tech-niques applied to noise signals, measured inside the car tire through an acoustic sensor. At the moment, my research mainly focuses on sensors, deep learning network optimization, signal processing and statistical data analysis.
In the future I hope to complete and optimize the surface classification system on both an hardware and a software level, in order to provide efficient, cost
effective and reliable real time data on road conditions.
